Position Purpose:

This is a hybrid position working out of Paramus (NJ), Boston (MA), Milwaukee (WI), or Canada locations.

The Senior Technical Director will provide technical support to all VNA Business Units and management oversight to the VNA BU Technical Managers and Engineers. The Senior Technical Director supports the operational execution for existing contracts with process, troubleshooting, compliance and training efforts, optimization initiatives and, as appropriate, business development activities to obtain new contracts.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated leadership ability with an understanding of Knowledge of Facilities / Capital Equipment Management, QA/QC procedures, Safety, Environmental and Process/Operations Management.

  • Possess the ingenuity and initiative required to coordinate problem resolution, resolve conflicting priorities and to meet assignment deadlines within a team environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects to an on-schedule completion and within budget.

  • Demonstrated the knowledge and abilities in process modeling.

  • Demonstrated effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills in order to interface with and motivate all levels of personnel.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable regulations as issued by the Federal and State regulatory agencies.

  • Demonstrated experience working with technical organizations (e.g. AWWA; WEF) – either on committees or as an officer.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate, effective, complete, and easily understood written communications, instructional presentations, and reports.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • 15+ year’s progressive experience within operations and maintenance or engineering industries.

  • Desirable experience includes industrial water and/or wastewater treatment experience with thorough knowledge of the methods, techniques, principles, and practices of water and wastewater treatment, water distribution, water reuse and wastewater collection, and/or experience in power generation, heating/cooling systems and distribution networks, and combined heat and power (CHP) processes.

  • It is highly desirable to have hands-on field experience with a wide range of treatment systems and processes and/or commercial heat/power systems with a focus on troubleshooting and optimization.

  • Familiarity with maintenance, operation, regulatory reporting, and cost estimating software.

  • Knowledge of specific modeling – hydraulic and process modeling programs is also desirable.

  • Demonstrated commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and other Company policies and procedures.

  • BS in engineering, with a MS or MBA preferred.

  • Commercial skills in terms of contract negotiation and management, and financial budgeting, management and reporting at a project level.

  • Effective problem-solving leader; ability to identify or develop structures or frameworks to solve complex business problems or technical challenges; comfortable with drawing meaning from ambiguous data or information.

  • Commercial mindset and business acumen; ability to translate ideas into business cases; experience with value pricing or performance-based contracting models a plus.

  • Exceptional communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills; ability to develop and deliver structured and effective presentations to clients at all levels of staff and management.

  • Strong time and project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage teams against ambitious deliverables and timelines.

  • Adept at developing project execution plans after thorough discussion with clients.

  • Strong PC skills are essential. Must have proven proficiency in Google Workspace—advanced to expert level with spreadsheet and presentation skills.

  • Self-motivated to high performance and ability to work autonomously.

  • Mobility and ability to travel in excess of 50% required.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • Valid Driver’s license and safe driving record.

  • Engineering License and/or Operator Certification or other equivalent confirmation of specialty skills is highly desirable.
